What you can learn
We help students develop the skills to work independently and choose their next steps, whether in research or another career. Our group news includes examples of students' work and achievements.
Developing your own ideas
You will practise asking research questions, working through difficult problems, and testing possible solutions. As your project develops, you will take more responsibility for the work and learn to judge which ideas are worth pursuing.
Writing and presenting
Research involves explaining your work to other people. You will practise writing papers and reports, making presentations for seminars and conferences, and discussing your ideas. Guidance takes account of how you work and communicate, so you can develop a style that suits you.
Working with others
You will work with students and faculty, including people from other disciplines. This gives you practice sharing work, learning from others, and cooperating with people whose knowledge and experience differ from yours.
Learning with support
You can discuss research ideas, personal development, and life outside university with us. Supervision depends on your strengths and needs, whether you are learning to approach a research problem or improving a draft or presentation. We want students to leave with the skills and confidence to handle their next project and their next stage in life.
